Some women provided for them out of their resources

1 Corinthians 15:12-20

Luke 8:1-3

Jesus always lived by what he taught. He taught his disciples not to worry about tomorrow, but to focus on the work of the day, for each day has enough troubles of its own (Matthew 6:34). Instead, he told them to seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness, and all other things would be given to them (Matthew 6:33). He himself abandoned the security of his home in Nazareth and his trade, and totally dedicated himself to the spread of the kingdom of heaven, such that a time came when he had nowhere to lay his head (Luke 9:58). Yet, as we hear in today’s gospel. As he “…journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities… provided for them out of their resources.”

There is a lesson for all Church institutions and all those engaged in the task of spreading God’s kingdom. Their efforts to create a self-sustaining Church should not lead them to neglect of the essential duty of their ministry. When they dedicate themselves to that duty totally, working for the good of the people whom they serve, God takes charge of their needs, as he did in the case of His Son.
